Accountability

Sometimes freelancers and small business owners find the lack of their own accountability to be a problem in keeping their business moving forward.

Amber Riviere, my colleague over at Web Worker Daily wrote a great piece yesterday on how an Accountability Partner can help keep you focused an on task.

An accountability partner is someone who can help you stay on track toward reaching your goals and creating a life and business by design rather than default.

How To Use Facebook & Maintain Your Privacy

With more and more people jumping on to Facebook I wanted to share these helpful tips on how to maintain your privacy while still enjoying the service. Learn about how your info is shared and how taking some time to tweak your settings can help keep your information secure.

More than 1 billion photos are uploaded every month by its users, over 70% of whom use applications like games and quizzes in Facebook. Unfortunately, most users don’t know the implications of entering personal information, making friends, and playing games on Facebook.

Facebook: News Feed or Live Feed?

I'm getting a lot of questions about the most recent Facebook interface changes, particularly just what the heck is the difference between the News and Live Feeds.  I thought I would share the general distinction straight from the source.

News Feed aggregates the most interesting content that your friends are posting, while Live Feed shows you all the actions your friends are making in real-time.

via Facebook | Home page: News Feed and Stream.

The news feed is based on a number of factors and may not display everything, but if you've got a lot of friends it might be a good option for you. It's easy to switch back and forth though.

The Facebook help on this is pretty good but if you've got other questions leave them in the comments and we'll try to help out.

On Family, Community, and Bees

I've mentioned that I participate in weekly Twitter Chats focusing on small biz technology. These @sbbuzz chats are the brainchild of BatchBlue founders Michelle Riggen-Ransom and Pamela O'Hara, along with virtual assistant extraordinaire Michelle Wolverton. I urge you to join in if you haven't already.

Our topic this week was going to be loose, an open mic night to let folks be available for question and answer. This chat went a bit differently than usual... Pamela explains how important community is and why it takes a hive to be a success.

Are People Talking About You?

My intention isn't to make you feel paranoid, but knowing whether people are talking about your business and your brand is critical in today's market.

I was in a meeting with a client this morning and I did a quick search on Twitter for their brand name. It turns out that quite a few folks were mentioning their site and their service. Conversations were happening about, but without them.

What are people saying about you and your business? Wouldn't you rather be a part of the discussion?
